video editing!
i did it once, i'm doing it again... compiling a video (for an upcoming wedding... shhh its a secret). this time without a video camera. how you say? well, am using photos and cheesy fade-in-and-outs and adding a soundtrack to that - basically a glorified powerpoint slideshow (but with sound).
but who would've thought a 3-min slideshow would blow out to a 700MB file (uncompressed). so using the divx and lame (hey! Lame Ain't an MP3 Encoder) codecs in virtualdub, it produces the same quality video for less - the resultant video file is about a 10th of the original size. and all free software to produce quality stuff. r0x0r$ d00dz! nothing like that feeling of using non-evil software that benefits all but the wallets of them fat cats :D
