was just thinking about the similarities between chinese new year and the western new year. is there much of a difference?

well, of course they look different on the exterior - lion/dragon dances, ang pau's, bak kua, etc. but deep down in the roots of the two ar eone and the same i reckon. celebration of new year. reflection on the past. resolutions for the new year (warding off the ill of the past).

not all western new years are shared with families. so perhaps this is where the two really differ.

anyways, this was my experience this chinese new years. even though there were no firecrackers or 'chinese cookies'. there was a family reunion... of just my immediate family (no real difference to any other day). no visitations (except via phone). simple... yet to the point i think :)
