nice(r) ppl

my mobile plan finally ends in the coming month of April. after enduring it for what seems to be centuries, i'm freed of its burden. so today, i call the carrier (who will remain anonymous to protect the sometimes-innocent) to let them know i'll be ceasing this rather costly plan. so i told the person on the other end of the phone this nicely.

and for once, i got a humane and pleasant conversation with this operator. she appealled to my better judgement to continue this relationship with them after the long years with them. but i'm no sucker. i held firm and reiterated my request.

what happened next was a surprise. they offered me a simple deal (given only to their valued customers - read: special). it's a $0 account, where i pay nothing but the calls i make and i get to keep my number. so i got suckered and accepted it. after all, if i need not pay anything, then i'm happy.

the fact that this was achieved in a nice conversation left me amazed that they're not that evil after all. perhaps it was because they rather me give them my money than to their competitors, but i'm starting to feel nostalgic abt the good ol' times with this phone carrier.
