wave from cyprus

i've arrived at the grecian bay hotel in ayia napa, cyprus!

yesh... after a deceivingly long journey - (14hrs to dubai, transit for 3, 4 to larnaca), i can safely say i'm pooped. but its only 2.40pm here and my body is feeling confused. what was amazing about the flight was that upon boarding it, it so happened that the other two RMIT researchers presenting at this conference had their seats plonk right in front of mine. coincidence? i think not... thanks God :) it was really a boost for me as nerves set in for my first flight across the globe on my own. plus we managed to share the cost of an oh-so-expensive taxi ride. 45mins in a taxi will set you back 25CYP (about 75 AUD).

cyprus is colder than i expected it to be. maybe its just today, but i felt cold-ish in my tshirt. the scenery is different to anywhere i've been. its like desert-like in some parts yet can be lush in others. the buildings are quite unique too. houses are square-ish with water purification tanks on the roof.

grecian bay is nice tho i wouldn't really say it lives up to its 5-star rating. the room itself i have is good - apart from the view. it overlooks the car park. heh. is paying 8CYP (24 AUD) extra a night for a sea view worth it? hmm.... however, i'm content with the hotel.

this is my first time experiencing major jet lag. i'm very very confused (more than i usually am :P). its like 250pm here but my laptop clock tells me its near midnight melb time. oh wait. i think i just mentioned that before. see what i mean... anyways, my body has definitely not adjusted - its like i wanna sleep, but i wanna eat lunch at the same time. i wanna rest and crash, but the afternoon sun is still up and i wanna explore. craaaazy.

anyways, i took some happy snaps all the way here, which i'll flikr-load soon. will take more around ayia napa too... l8rs doods... *stomach growls*

Imagine - basking in the company of the [sun, sea, sand, surf, bikini babes, beach hunks] i mean, ocean of knowledge experts. Fooof!

So are you awash in a sea of sandals and togas... or is my image of greece a little distorted?
